Limerence vs. Unrequited Love

Limerence is an intense, obsessive romantic fixation on someone. It often involves constant thoughts about the person, idealizing them, looking for signs they like you back, and having your mood depend heavily on their attention or rejection.

Unrequited love means you have romantic feelings for someone who does not feel the same way or is unavailable. The feelings can be painful and strong, but they do not necessarily involve obsession or constant mental preoccupation.

Unrequited love describes the situation: your feelings are not returned.

Limerence describes the intensity and pattern of your attachment: obsessive thinking, idealization, craving reassurance, and needing signs of reciprocation.
